Estudi preliminar amb propostes de teball i de comentaris de text a cura de Carme Ballús.
El retaule del flautista de Jordi Teixidor va rebre el Premi Josep Maria de Sagarra el 1968 i va ser publicada per primera vegada el 1970, any en què fou estrenada al Teatre l'Aliança del Poblenou. Després es va presentar al Teatre Capsa de Barcelona, on se'n van fer més de mil representacions. Ha estat representada en múltiples ocasions, al llarg de tota la geografia catalana, en teatres comercials o bé per grups d'aficionats.És una sàtira sobre la corrupció política i les contradiccions humanes, amanida amb cançons i regada amb bons rajolins d'ironia, llesta per a ser servida en qualsevol època de l'any o de la història, tan vàlida ara com fa més de trenta anys.L'estudi introductori, les propostes de treball i els comentaris de text, han anat a cura de Carme Ballús, escriptora i professora de llengua catalana a l'IES A. Cumella de Granollers.
